Hercog, Safarova make Family Circle Cup semifinals
Polona Hercog made quick work of a former Family Circle Cup champion tonight, taking a 6-1, 6-2 win over 2006 winner Nadia Petrova to advance to the semifinals.
Hercog, seeded 14th, will take on No. 9 Lucie Safarova in the semis Saturday on Stadium Court on Daniel Island.
Safarova knocked off No. 4 seed Vera Zvonareva by 6-3, 6-3, earlier today.
Hercog, a 21-year-old from Slovenia, is 1-1 in her career against Safarova, who is 25 and from the Czech Republic.
