Serena, Venus Williams both advance at Family Circle Cup tennis
Serena Williams, the No. 5 seed in the Family Circle Cup tennis tournament on Daniel Island, rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 victory over No. 17 seed Marina Erakovic today.
In the match immediately following, Venus Williams took a 7-5, 6-2 win over Anastasia Rodionova.
Serena won the 2008 Family Circle Cup title while Venus won here in 2004.
Earlier, Polona Hercog of Slovenia, took a grueling 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 victory over No. 3 seed Marion Bartoli of France in the opening match. Also, Lucie Safarova beat Aleksandra Wozniak, 6-2, 6-7 (4), 6-1.
Serena Williams will face the winner of today’s match between 2009 champion Sabine Lisicki and Yaroslava Shvedova.
