WISE COLUMN: New store to replace longtime Park Circle grocer

Longtime fans of Myers Grocery, a family-owned neighborhood store near Park Circle in North Charleston that recently closed after 65 years, can take heart that a new community grocer will reopen on the site.

Joan Myers Inabinette, who was born a few months after the shop opened and practically grew up in the business, decided to close the shop at 4565 Durant Ave. when she turned 65 to enjoy her retirement and spend some time with her grandson.

“I hated giving it up, but it was time,” Inabinette said.

In its place will be a new store called Seven Day Grocery. Inabinette leased the property to Ahmed Shedid, who also owns Hanover Corner and has an interest in the recently launched College Market convenience store in downtown Charleston.

Shedid plans to open the new community store in May.

Lights dimming

Sushi Hiro Japanese restaurant at 298 King St. in downtown Charleston will close Saturday to undergo renovations and will reopen in about two months as Izakaya Hiro, a collaboration between REV Foods and Hideya Ishibashi.

Nailed down

Sandals Nail Spa is now open at 1305 Theatre Drive in Mount Pleasant Towne Centre. The salon offers pedicures, manicures, gels, shellac and more. The owner is Mac Vu.

Also, Studio Nails and Spa recently opened at 778 Shelmore Blvd., near Bi-Lo at I’On in Mount Pleasant. The owner is Dana Vo.

Looking to grow

Del Taco, a quick-service restaurant chain, is looking to Charleston to expand its presence in the Southeast. The company plans to open eight to 10 restaurants in metro Charleston and is seeking franchise partners.

The California-based chain opened its first South Carolina restaurant in Rock Hill in 2010. In addition to quick-serve Mexican fare, the 530-restaurant chain also serves burgers, fries and shakes.

Select Mount Pleasant Towne Centre retailers will be open on Easter Sunday.
