2nd man arrested in death at Columbia park
COLUMBIA – Authorities have identified a man whose body was found in a pond at a Columbia park.
The Richland County Coroner’s Office says 51-year-old Richard Kinsley, Jr., was killed by head and neck injuries from an assault.
Police say two people walking in South East Park called 911 at around 10 a.m. Sunday after finding the body. Divers from the Richland County Sheriff’s Department recovered Kinsley’s body, and authorities say he had not been in the water long.
Two men have been charged in connection with Kinsley’s death. Peter Edward Chalers has been charged with accessory after the fact of murder. Police have also charged 41-year-old Lawrence Stevens with urban camping and providing false information to police.
It wasn’t clear if either man had an attorney.
