Jenny Sanford fined $150 for loose dog
Former South Carolina first lady Jenny Sanford was fined $150 by Sullivan’s Island municipal court judge Larry Duffy. Duffy said he doesn’t remember ever giving a the maximum $1,000 fine, but that he does give escalating fines for repeat offenders.
Outside the courtroom, Sanford said she knows of towns that pick up dogs and return them to owners for $75. She questioned whether town council here is trying to force dog owners off the island.
She called the $1,040 bond on the ticket “a tax on resident dog owners and a tax on your time.”
Sanford was fined more than $1,000 in February after her 8-year-old black lab Julius escaped from the yard of her beachfront home.
