Man shot during traffic stop West Ashley, transported to hospital
One man was shot during a traffic stop in West Ashley this afternoon, and has been transported to the Medical University Hospital, according to Charleston County Sheriff Al Cannon.
During a traffic stop, a driver pulled into the parking lot of Performance Chiropractic off Highway 61. When the deputy got out of his car after the man stopped, the driver put the car into reverse and the deputy opened fire.
The driver was wounded, but managed to drive several blocks before abandoning the vehicle and fleeing on foot.
Police used tracking dogs to locate the man, who they found on the ground at the back of a nearby apartment complex.
