South Carolina Stingrays defenseman Johann Kroll was named to the All-ECHL Second Team on Thursday.

Kroll, 28, has a career-high 31 points (8 goals, 23 assists) in 61 games with the Stingrays this season and ranks third among ECHL defensemen with a plus-minus rating of +19.

Since joining the Stingrays as a rookie for the 2008-09 season, the Plymouth, MN, native has 13 goals and 65 assists for 78 points in 159 contests and helped the team capture their third Kelly Cup championship in 2009.

“A lot of times guys who win awards like this are one-way players with big offensive numbers,” said Stingrays head coach Spencer Carbery. “Johann has had fantastic for us in both ends of the ice. I think this shows you the kind of respect he gets from coaches around the league.”

The Stingrays open up a crucial two-game home-and-away series Friday night in Greenville against the Road Warriors. The Stingrays need two wins to secure a spot in the ECHL's Kelly Cup playoffs.
