Charleston County Democrats elected Richard Hricik as their new chairman during their convention Saturday.

Hricik, who ran in a special election for an East Cooper County Council seat last year, will replace George Tempel, whose wife Carol has filed for the State House District 115 seat now held by Republican Peter McCoy.

Hricik (pronounced Riss-ick) is a lawyer and former tax accountant. He has served on the governing board of East Cooper Montessori Charter School. Hricik lost the County Council election to Republican Herb Sass.
