The Citadel scored three runs in the ninth inning, but Appalachian State threw out the tying run at the plate to hold on for a 7-6 victory and a three-game sweep of the Bulldogs in college baseball today in Boone, N.C.

With three runs in and pinch-runner T.J. Clarkson at second base in the ninth, the Bulldogs' Nick Orvin looped a single to right field. The throw by App State's Tyler Tewell beat Clarkson to the plate, and catcher Jeremy Dowdy applied the tag to end the game.

The Bulldogs fell to 8-11 overall and 1-5 in the Southern Conference despite three runs batted-in by Joe Jackson and two from Mason Davis. Logan Cribb (1-1) suffered the loss, allowing six runs on eight hits over five innings with three strikeouts and two walks.

Will Callaway was 4 of 5 with a home run and two RBI for App State (17-3, 6-0).

The Citadel is home against Charleston Southern at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Riley Park.
