South Carolina’s women’s basketball team on Monday night received a No. 5 seed in the NCAA tournament and will play No. 12 seed Eastern Michigan on Saturday in West Lafayette, Ind. The game will tip off at 11:05 a.m. Eastern.

The Gamecocks, who are in their first NCAA tournament since 2003, are in the Fresno Region. If they win, they play the winner of No. 4 Purdue and No. 13 San Diego State. The games will be held on Purdue’s home court.

In its last NCAA appearance, USC beat Chattanooga before falling to Penn State, the host school. USC made the Elite Eight in 2002. Before that, the Gamecocks hadn’t made the tournament since 1991, when they went one-and-done while playing in the event for the fourth straight year.

This year is USC’s ninth overall NCAA tournament appearance. The Gamecocks are 8-8 in the NCAAs. Fourth-year coach Dawn Staley is 2-6 in six appearances at her previous job, Temple, where she spent eight seasons. She led the Owls to the second round in 2005 and 2007.
