Derek Douglas, The Citadel's all-Southern Conference defensive lineman, injured his knee today near the end of a spring football practice session.

Early tests indicate that Douglas, a 6-1, 260-pound junior, suffered damage to a collateral ligament, according to coach Kevin Higgins. Further tests will determine the severity of the injury. Douglas will not play in next Saturday's spring game.

Douglas made 43 tackles last season, including a team-high 14.5 for loss, including 3.5 sacks. He also recovered a fumble and forced a fumble.

"We'll have to wait and see," Higgins said. "It's a knee, maybe a collateral ligament, but we're not sure. We're hoping for the best."
