Power outage shuts Naval Health Clinic

Saturday's heavy rain and thunderstorms caused a "catastrophic power outage" at the Naval Health Clinic Charleston, according to a news release.

Patients who use the clinic are being advised that the main clinic and the dental clinic will be closed until Wednesday.

Patients with appointments Monday or Tuesday should call to reschedule.

Pharmacy customers in need of emergency refills of medication can be seen at the Joint Base Charleston Air Base pharmacy.

Maintenance crews are working to restore power and phone service. Updated information on when the clinics will reopen will be provided on the clinic's Facebook page and website, as well as in local media. Patients may call 800-343-0639, extension 5, to get the latest information.

Bomb threat false alarm at Summerville location

Berkeley County authorities responded Sunday night to a reported bomb threat at a Summerville-area business, cordoning off the property and sending in a bomb-sniffing dog.

A threatening phone call to the McDonald's and Pilot gas station on U.S. 17A was reported to the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office about 7 p.m., spokesman Dan Moon said.

No explosive materials were found, Moon said. Deputies cleared the business about 8:30 p.m.

After rains, DHEC closes clam and oyster areas

Clam and oyster harvesting areas along the southern third of South Carolina's coast have been closed due to this weekend's heavy rainfall, the state Department of Health and Environmental Control announced Sunday.

"All of the clam and oyster harvesting areas from State Highway 174 in Charleston County down to the South Carolina-Georgia line have been closed," said Mike Pearson, manager of DHEC's shellfish sanitation program. "All of these areas will remain closed until water-quality sampling indicates bacteria levels are suitable for shellfish harvesting."
