College of Charleston pitcher earns league honor
College of Charleston senior pitcher Ryan West has been named the Southern Conference pitcher of the week, the conference office announced Monday.
West led College of Charleston to a 7-0 victory over Jacksonville on Tuesday in his first career start. West pitched six perfect innings as the Cougars took a perfect game into the ninth inning before an infield single broke it up.
West recorded four strikeouts and did not allow a base runner against the Dolphins to pick up his first career win. West also pitched an inning of relief over the weekend against Elon. He currently sports a team-best 0.00 season ERA with 8 2/3 innings of pitching.
Furman’s Will Owens was named the SoCon player of the week.
The College of Charleston (7-3, 1-2 in the SoCon) will host Toledo Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Patriots Point.
