Charleston County School Board gained on Wednesday its ninth and final member after the governor appointed Brian Thomas to the vacant seat.

Gov. Nikki Haley followed the recommendation of the Charleston County Legislative Delegation and named Thomas, 37, of West Ashley to the governing board of the state's second largest school district.

Thomas will serve on the county school board until the general election in November, and he's already said he plans to run for the seat again.

"I'm looking forward to getting started," he said. "The waiting has been brutal."

Fourteen candidates applied for the seat that Mary Ann Taylor resigned in November, and lawmakers agreed Jan. 20 that Thomas should fill the spot.
