No charges to be filed in auto-pedestrian fatality
No charges will be filed in the early Sunday auto-pedestrian accident that took a woman's life in West Ashley, Charleston police spokesman Charles Francis said.
Darleen Banks, 56, of West Ashley, was crossing Sam Rittenberg Boulevard, near North Woodmere Drive, about 12:45 a.m. when she was struck by a car, the Charleston County Coroner's Office said.
Banks was thrown from the first lane to the third lane by the impact. A police officer was traveling behind the car when it struck Banks, and an officer began CPR with negative results. Charleston County EMS personnel pronounced Banks dead at the scene, Francis said.
Francis said Wednesday that after an investigation police decided that charges will not be filed against the driver.
