Alston Middle School to honor black history through Umoja Night

Alston Middle School will celebrate African-American culture Thursday through Umoja Night in honor of Black History Month.

The school's fine arts department is throwing the event, which will feature Gullah folklore, jazz musicians, sweetgrass-basket demonstrations, food samples and local African-American poets.

Umoja Night will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
