The City of Charleston's Housing Authority is looking for donations for a clothing closet for residents of public housing.

Abraham's Closet opened Jan. 23 in the East Side community center at 136 Alexander St. The closet is open by appointment only, and staff members pick the recipients based on need.

Four families have benefitted from it so far, Susan Chambers with the housing authority said today.

The agency is accepting donations of new and gently used clothing, as well as cash, for the project. Tax-deductible donations can be dropped off at the housing authority's maintenance office at 545 Meeting St. The phone number is 720-3981.
