Cremins, or no Cremins? Cougars head coach update
Mark Byington improved his record to 4-2 as interim head coach of the College of Charleston basketball team Saturday with a home upset of Southern Conference leader Davidson. And the plot thickens as the school waits to see if head coach Bobby Cremins, suffering from “exhaustion” and out on medical leave since Jan. 27, returns for next season.
Cremins is scheduled to meet later this week with College of Charleston administrators to discuss his health status and, perhaps, future plans.
Byington with three straight victories certainly has helped his cause for permanent consideration if Cremins steps down.
Former Cougar guard Anthony Johnson, a 13-year NBA veteran, was at the Davidson game and clearly stated his interest in the job if it opens.
“I would be very interested,” Johnson told the Post and Courier.
And a friend of Al Skinner, the former Boston College head coach and current Isle of Palms home owner, says Skinner will apply for the job if Cremins retires.
