It has been an injury-plagued season for South Carolina Stingray forwards Chris Higgins and Billy Ryan.

Higgins and Ryan have combined to play in just 12 games this season.

Higgins has missed 38 games with a hand injury, while Ryan has missed 35 games with a broken jaw and a groin injury.

“It’s been a frustrating season,” Ryan said. “Just when I thought things were starting to go my way, I got injured and I can’t seem to get back into the lineup.”

Ryan recorded three goals and an assist in his first two games with the Stingrays before breaking his jaw against Florida on Nov. 2. He returned for one game against Gwinnett on Dec. 26 and has yet to play again.

Higgins, who has two goals and four assists in nine games, hasn’t been in the lineup since Dec. 3.

The Stingrays are hopeful that Higgins and Ryan can return to the lineup by the Stingrays next homestand, which begins on Feb. 25. They both were skating during practice this past week.

“Chris is probably going to be ready when we get back from our road trip (Feb. 25),” said Stingrays trainer D.J. Church. “We won’t know about Billy until next week.”
