Sharon Stone would be the first to tell you: Don't argue with Martin Scorsese.

The legendary director presented Stone with a lifetime achievement award at the AARP Movies for Grownups awards ceremony recently, and in presenting the prize said, "she's got a little longer to go for a lifetime."

Stone, 53, gave an emotional speech thanking Scorsese for directing her to an Oscar nomination in the film "Casino," and reflect- ing on the turbulent time of her 40s when the phone wasn't exactly ringing with job offers.

Later, Stone said she turned to charity work, causes like amfAR and Drop in the Bucket, to help her through the murky waters of aging in Hollywood.

"Elizabeth Taylor provided an example to live by," Stone said of her fellow actress, AIDS research and prevention pioneer.

Other AARP Movies for Grownups honorees includ- ed Meryl Streep, Glenn Close and the cast of "The Artist."
