Santorum campaign delivered S.C. Hanukkah greeting with mixed message
The New York Observer’s Hunter Walker unearthed an interesting object devised and distributed by the Rick Santorum campaign in December: a Hanukkah greeting card sent to residents of South Carolina.
The card, which features an image of a menorah, a pair of dreidels and a Star of David, includes three messages from “S.C. Team Santorum,” two of which are innocuous enough. It’s the quote from Scripture at the top of the card that caused a few to twitch with surprise.
It reads: “I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.” That’s from the New Testament, John 8:12 to be exact, in which Jesus chastises the Pharisees and forgives a women charged with adultery her sins.
The gaffe — if that’s what it was — has caught the attention of several online news outlets and aggregators. The Santorum campaign has not yet clarified its mixed messaging.
