Porter-Gaud wins Math Meet
Porter-Gaud School received first place in the SCISA Division I State Middle School Math Meet competition.
Additionally, Porter-Gaud's Nikki Bregman placed second in the individual competition.
Other team winners included the Hammond School in Columbia, second, and Hilton Head Preparatory School, third.
In the individual competition, Will White, a student at Hilton Head Prep, was first, and Lou Runge of Hammond was third.
The Middle School Math Meet is open to students in grades 6-8. Each school may enter no more than two teams of five students each. During the competition, all students take a one-hour multiple-choice written math test consisting of 50 questions. Following the test, each team member participates in a speed round of five questions.
The Math Meet is conducted in two divisions determined by school enrollment. A total of 396 students on 66 teams representing 42 schools participated in both divisions of the event.
The South Carolina Independent School Association is a nonprofit association of about 106 independent schools serving more than 37,000 teachers and students.
