Former James Island standout shines at Dartmouth
Former James Island two-sports star Bo Patterson, The Post and Courier's male athlete of the year for the 2010-11 academic year, is showing his prowess as a two-sports star at Dartmouth.
Patterson, a freshman at the Ivy League school, is making the transition from a wide receiver on the gridiron to the outfield on the baseball diamond for the Big Green.
Patterson landed a starting job four games into his college football career and finished with 24 catches for 301 yards and two touchdowns. He averaged 12.5 yards per catch. He was even more impressive in the final weeks of the season.
He had five catches for 79 yards in Week 8 against Cornell and another five catches for 48 yards and a touchdown in the finale against Princeton.
Patterson was a candidate for Mr. Football his senior season at James Island and played in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas.
He was all-state in baseball after batting over .400 last spring for Tom Hatley's club. He was selected to play in the North-South baseball game.
