The Pantry, which operates Kangaroo Express convenience stores, and BP will give $1,000 to 10 schools in Charleston County starting next week.

Schools that will receive a donation are Burke High, Burns Elementary, Drayton Hall Elementary, E.B. Ellington Elementary, Mt. Zion Elementary, North Charleston Elementary, Stono Park Elementary, Sullivan's Island Elementary, Wando High and West Ashley High.

Schools were chosen based on the communities served by Kangaroo Express and BP.

School officials can spend the money however they want, and some of the money will be used to supplement field trips, train teachers, buy classroom-ready science kits and provide students with books and instruments.

Charleston is one of three school districts in which Kangaroo Express and BP are donating $10,000 as part of its Fueling Communities program. The two others are Hamilton County in Tennessee and Wake County in North Carolina.
