Ex-BB&T chief to speak at CofC
The former top executive of regional banking giant BB&T Corp. will be speaking about the lending industry and its top regulator next week at a free event sponsored partly by his former employer.
John Allison's talk is part of the College of Charleston BB&T Free Market Process Speaker Series. It will be held Feb. 9 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Wachovia Auditorium at 5 Liberty St. in downtown Charleston. The title of the talk is: "The Practical Impact of the Federal Reserve on Decision Making in Large Financial Institutions."
From 1989 to 2008, Allison was the president and chief executive officer of Winston-Salem-based BB&T. During his tenure as CEO, the bank owner grew to $152 billion in assets from $4.5 billion. In March 2009, he joined the faculty of Wake Forest University's business school. He remains on BB&T's board.
