State Report: College of Charleston wins swimming meets

The College of Charleston men's and women's swimming squads took home dual meet victories in the Cougars' final competition before the CCSA Championships in February.

The men beat Gardner-Webb, 143-119, while the women won, 135-124. The women had eight first-place finishes, while the men took nine.

Sophomore Sarah Boyle won the 100 backstroke in 59.31 seconds, the 200 backstroke in 2:07.31 and the 100 butterfly in 59.44. Sarah Graif won the 50 freestyle (24.43), the 100 freestyle and was on the first-place 200 free relay.

Senior Matt Sherrier won three different events, including the 1650 free (16:38), 100 free (48.10) and 500 free (4:47).

Track and field

Gabrielle Houston and Mulern Jean each had a first-place finish for Charleston Southern's women at the ETSU Niswonger Invitational in Johnson City, Tenn.

Houston won the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.59.

The Bucs went one-two in the 60-meter hurdles, with Jean winning in 8.60 and Houston taking second in 8.72.

For the CSU men, Rozzie Johnson won the 60 meters in 6.76. Javon Young took second in the 200 meters in 21.45.

The Citadel's 4x400m relay team of Alexandra Moss, Micah Wessinger, Danielle McKee and Tanisha Bethel took first place in 4:04 at the Wesley A. Brown Invitational in Annapolis, Md.

Brunson Miller, Kyle Keene and David Melton all posted school-bests in in the 400, 5,000 and pole vault, respectively.
