College of Charleston athletic director Joe Hull said Bobby Cremins' decision Friday to take a medical leave of absence from coaching the men's basketball team has no immediate effect on his contract. Nor does it have an effect on the contract of Mark Byington, who was named interim coach.

"As far as today, Bobby's still where he was, and Mark's still where he was financially," Hull said. "We haven't done anything about that. We're going to have to let the next few weeks play out and see exactly what this is before we make those kinds of decisions."

Cremins, who signed a contract extension in August 2009 that would keep him coaching through the 2013-14 season, is paid $246,385 annually.

Byington, who has been with Cremins for six seasons and at the school for nine seasons, is paid $74,289 annually, the same as assistant coach Fred Dupree, and he is under a one-year contract.
