Possible abduction seen on James Island
Deputies and city police canvassed James Island on Wednesday after a witness said he saw three men in Riverland Terrace drag a woman into their car and drive off.
"We don't know if it's a kidnapping, but we're treating it as such," said Capt. Eric Watson of the Charleston County Sheriff's Office.
Watson said a Riverland Terrace resident called 911 at 4:40 p.m. after three men in a white car stopped near the corner of Riverland Drive and St. James Drive. The intersection is in a quiet, tree-lined area a few blocks north of the city's municipal golf course.
The witness said one of the occupants jumped out of the car and grabbed a woman by the arm and pulled her into the back seat. The witness said the man was black and had shoulder-length dreadlocks or twists.
The woman was described as white with blond hair, in her 20s and about 5 feet 6 inches tall. She was wearing a pink T-shirt and flip-flops, one of which was left at the scene. The car sped toward Maybank Highway. A police report described the car as a "white convertible-type vehicle."
Watson said he wasn't aware of any missing-person reports that might be linked with this incident, but that authorities were gathering more information.
