'Critique My Antique' set
In your eyes, the Civil War memorabilia that's been in your family for generations is priceless. But if you'd like to know what others might be willing to pay for those treasured pieces, the Arts Business Civic Coalition of Summerville/Dorchester County will provide a chance to find out.
"Critique My Antique: Get a Verdict on Your Vintage," is a fundraiser by the group being held to generate money for developing a civic-business center in Summerville. The Jan. 15 event will mark the second time the organization has gathered local and regional antiques experts to inform owners about their pieces.
The experts will evaluate a range of antiques and collectibles and provide tips on caring for them for $10 per item. They also will provide verbal estimates on the value of glass and crystal, costume jewelry, metal and sculpture, paintings and prints, fine jewelry, porcelain, silver, books and textiles. Those taking items to the event should limit them to ones that can be carried by a single person.
Among the 11 experts who will take part are Addam Coe, Civil War artifacts; George Read, metals and sculpture; Kevin Lawring, silver; and Gloria Lombard, textiles.
The event runs 1-5 p.m. in Summerville High School.
