Swinney has not had contract talks — yet

CLEMSON -- Football coach Dabo Swinney said he has not yet had a conversation with Clemson officials regarding a contract extension.

Swinney is under contract through 2014 and has fewer years remaining on his deal than Clemson offensive coordinator Chad Morris has in his agreement. Morris signed a new six-year deal earlier this month, an agreement taking him through the 2017 season.

By winning the Atlantic Coast Conference title this season, Swinney hit a key contract escalator, raising his total compensation from the median of all ACC head football coaches to the median of the top seven compensation coaches in the conference. Swinney made $1.75 million this season and will earn a raise to $2.2 million next season.

Terry Don Phillips told The Post and Courier last month that he expects to talk to Swinney about his contract after the season, but Swinney said he has not yet talked to Phillips.

"It's up to them," Swinney said. "It's kind of their call. I don't really make that call. I just either listen or reciprocate or whatever, but I don't have many years left. I'm just kind of here chilling right now. The ball is in their court."

Swinney said he would like to remain at Clemson beyond the three years remaining on his deal.

With Morris' new contract, Clemson's football staff payroll for 2012 is set at $5.5 million, barring additional raises, doubling the staff's total compensation of $2.7 million in 2009.

Five-star's announcement on hold

Five-star defensive end Jonathan Bullard (Shelby, N.C.) was expected to make his college announcement today, but Bullard has decided to put the decision off until after the holiday break. Bullard has narrowed his finalists to Clemson, South Carolina and Florida.
