Tommy, 13, lives in a modest home with seven other family members, including his mother who is expecting another child. A local agency is assisting Tommy and his family with counseling, medication management and other community resources. Unfortunately, the family's needs far outweigh available funding in the tri-county area.

The father recently had surgery and is unable to work at this time; the grandmother needs 24-hour care; the mother is looking for work during her husband's medical leave; and there is a special-needs child in the family.

Tommy has improved by leaps and bounds in a clinical program but still has daily challenges in mood and behavior. The family needs assistance with utilities and food. Christmas presents will not be possible because the family has year-round difficulties with even basic needs.

Your donation to the Good Cheer Fund can make the holidays a bit brighter for Tommy and his family by helping them keep warm and fed and perhaps even putting a little something under the tree for the children.

Contributions to The Post and Courier's Good Cheer Fund have helped the less fortunate in the Lowcountry since 1927. The six charitable organizations sharing the funds collected are the Lowcountry Food Bank, the Salvation Army, Star Gospel Mission, the Association for the Blind, Catholic Charities and Carolina Youth Development Center. There are no administrative costs involved and every cent of the money goes directly to the six agencies.

Send tax-deductible contributions to the Good Cheer Fund, c/o The Post and Courier, 134 Columbus St., Charleston, SC 29403-4800. Donations also may be made in person or online at
