Folly writer invited to White House
Folly Beach novelist Dorothy St. James, author of "Flowerbed of State," the first entry in the "White House Gardener Mystery" series, will participate in a White House Holiday Tweetup on Dec. 5.
This will be the White House's fifth Tweetup, a gathering of people devoted to the social messaging medium. Nearly 2.5 million Twitter followers were asked to apply for the opportunity to attend a holiday open house.
"The Tweetup is not an event with the president and first lady but an opportunity to see the residence decorated for the holidays," according to an official White House statement. But guests "will also have the chance to engage with administration officials."
"I was surprised and pleased to be selected to spend the day at the White House," says St. James. "I look forward to sharing the experience through pictures and tweets with all my Twitter followers."
Fellow Twitter account holders can follow St. James' Twitter feed, @DorothyStJames. Her second novel in the series, "The Scarlet Pepper," is due out in April.
