Slow Runner to bring sound to Pour House
While Charleston can boast its share of unusual musical acts, one of the more distinctive sounds locally comes courtesy of Michael Flynn and Josh Kaler, better known to music fans as Slow Runner.
The duo has released five albums of beautifully original music over the past few years, and early on gained the attention of music producer legend Clive Davis, who signed Slow Runner to his J Records in 2005.
Although Flynn and Kaler ultimately decided to continue without the label, the duo has gone on to make melodic and forward-thinking music featuring Flynn's keyboards and vocals and Kaler's multi- instrumental talents.
The band's latest, "Damage Points," was released earlier this year and continues Slow Runner's streak of collections of catchy alternative rock.
For Friday's show at The Pour House on James Island, Slow Runner will be joined by local singer-songwriter Joel T. Hamilton, as well as one of Charleston's most buzzed-about new bands, Heyrocco.
The intimate setting of The Pour House's stage, coupled with the diversity of the artists performing Friday night, is sure to make for an entertaining night of great local music.
