Former Gov. Mark Sanford

Mark Sanford will be joining Fox News as a paid contributor, according to a New York Times report.

The ex-governor of South Carolina will feature prominently in the network's January debate to be held in the Palmetto State, according to the Times, and will stay on through the general election and beyond.

Sanford famously told the press he was hiking the Appalachian Trail in 2009, but later admitted he was in Argentina with his mistress. Sanford was the Republican governor of South Carolina for eight years; his second term ended in January. He was also a three-term Congressman representing the state.

Sanford laid low for a few months after leaving the governor's mansion, but re-emerged in a two-hour interview with the Times in August, during which he was asked if he would consider future runs for political office. His answer: "You never say never."
