Three weeks, 13 cruise ships calling in Charleston
The 450-passenger luxury cruise ship Sojourn is visiting Charleston today, as the fall cruise port-of-call season gets under way.
The Seaborn-owned Sojourn is the third cruise ship to call on Charleston since Sunday morning. Another 10 ships will call through Nov. 4, according to the State Ports Authority.
Those ships, arriving during a three-week span, account for more than 15 percent of all the cruise ship visits to Charleston this year — 20 port-of-calls and 64 embarkations of the Carnival Fantasy. According to the SPA, a number of the visits during these weeks are repositioning cruises, as ships are relocated from the north for the winter.
The Fantasy accounts for four of the 13 cruise ships visiting Charleston Oct. 16 through Nov. 4.
