Charleston schools schedule Hurricane Irene make-up day

Charleston County students will have to report to school Nov. 11 as a make-up day for school being canceled Aug. 26 because of Hurricane Irene.

The school board agreed earlier this week to waive the make-up day if state law allowed it, but district officials learned later that wasn't an option.

Students had been scheduled to be out of school Nov. 11, which is Veterans Day, but it was listed on the district's calendar as an optional make-up days.

Charleston leaders said schools will use the day to honor veterans through the day's lessons.
