Artists come together for Concert for a Cause on 9/17
The second annual Band Together: Concert for a Cause is Saturday at the Music Farm. The fundraiser was organized last year by Doug and Dan Wright as a way to raise money for the fight against cancer.
When it comes to cancer's impact on the world, the numbers are devastating. In a 2008 study conducted by the American Cancer Society, researchers found that cancer was responsible for 12.6 percent (nearly 8 million) of the world's deaths, second only to heart disease.
According to the study, it's estimated that one American dies from a cancer- related illness every minute, every day. Without further research to find more effective ways to combat this deadly disease, medical officials think cancer will be responsible for nearly 12 million annual deaths worldwide within the next 20 years.
This year's concert will feature local artists Dan Wright and the New Beat, Gaslight Street, Weigh Station, Ryan Bonner and the Dearly Beloved and Mary's Got a Band with 100 percent of the event's proceeds being donated to cancer research.
Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 the day of the show and are available at the Music Farm box office, Etix.com or at the door.
