Local critics and writers have spoken -- actually by ballot -- and chosen the roster of chefs and others who will put on an unusual Civil War-theme dinner Aug. 24 at Fort Sumter.

The "Ultimate Critics Dinner," which is sold out, is being hosted by the BB&T Charleston Wine + Food Festival in conjunction with the Fort Sumter-Fort Moultrie Historical Trust.

The panel selected Marc Collins of Circa 1886, Mike Lata of FIG, Jacques Larson of Wild Olive, Sean Brock of McCrady's and Husk, Ken Vedrinski of Trattoria Lucca and pastry chef Emily Cookson of Charleston Grill. Robert Carter of Peninsula Grill also was picked but is on sabbatical from the restaurant.

The sommelier will be Clint Sloan of McCrady's and Husk, and the master of ceremonies will be Mickey Bakst of Charleston Grill.
