Charleston police SWAT and hostage negotiation units were called to a home Monday afternoon, following an early morning argument between a girlfriend and boyfriend that authorities said escalated to an assault.
Christopher Glenn Mishowe, 33, of 58 Meander Row on James Island, was charged with kidnapping and criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, said Charles Francis, spokesman for the Charleston Police Department.
Mishowe is accused of assaulting his live-in girlfriend and holding her against her will.
He was arrested about 5:45 p.m. He surrendered without incident, Francis said.
SWAT and hostage negotiators arrived on the scene about 2:30 p.m., he said.
The domestic violence incident happened about 1 a.m., when Mishowe tied the woman's hands, and wouldn't allow her to leave the apartment, Francis said.
Mishowe eventually loosened her hands and allowed her to use the bathroom, from which she was able to escape, Francis said.
The woman called the police from the hospital, where she went after she escaped from the scene, Francis said.
