�It makes it very real � that spot right there someone died, no different from a gravesite to me,� firefighter Craig McDowell said after walking through the memorial where nine Charleston firefighters died in the Sofa Super Store blaze on June 18, 2007. McDowell, from Cary, N.C., was vacationing in the Lowcountry when he decided to stop by the site Wednesday.
