GOOSE CREEK -- Two dozen firefighters from three departments extinguished a fire that destroyed a vacant townhome Tuesday morning.

Firefighters from the Goose Creek Rural Fire Department responded to 114 Pineshadow Drive in Pineland Heights at 9:14 a.m., Engineer Scott Mrowca said.

Fire was already coming from the roof of Unit 112, Mrowca said.

"It was a major fire," he said. "It extended from the bottom of Apartment 112 all the way through the roof."

The department requested help from Caromi and Goose Creek City fire departments because of the size.

Firewalls prevented the blaze from reaching three adjoining units, all of which sustained heat and smoke damage.

The fire was under control by 10:04 a.m., Mrowca said.
