Clemson suspends WR Craig
CLEMSON -- Redshirt freshman receiver Joe Craig has been suspended from the Clemson football team and will not participate in summer workouts following an altercation with a female track athlete last month, Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney announced Tuesday.
"This is a serious on-campus student issue, there is a process that he will have to go through from a university standpoint," Swinney said in a release. "I respect the process and will fully support whatever the university decides to do. We will react from a football standpoint after that process has run its course but I cannot comment any further at this time on the details of this specific issue."
Craig and female track athlete Marlena Wesh were suspended from the track team last month after an argument at a party turned into a violent altercation in a Clemson area apartment. Craig was injured after Wesh cut his arm with a small blade. Craig responded by hitting Wesh with a towel rod causing a cut on Wesh's forehead, according to a Clemson University incident report.
Neither Craig nor Wesh pressed charges.
