WINGS 1 of 6 finalists in national competition
WINGS, a local nonprofit focused on teaching children social and emotional skills in an after-school setting, is one of six finalists in a national competition that could help the group launch nationally.
The 2011 Social Impact Business Plan Competition identifies social initiatives with demonstrated impact and readiness to grow, and it supports the winners with financial and consulting awards.
The final round of the competition will take place in New York City this summer, and WINGS Chief Executive Officer Bridget Laird and Business Affairs Director Adam Pomerantz will travel to represent the nonprofit.
"WINGS is on the cusp of national expansion -- preparing to give thousands more kids social and emotional smarts," Laird said. "So the timing of the Social Impact Exchange competition is perfect. We're diligently pushing forward and the national recognition is pivotal in our success."
WINGS serves 460 kids in four Charleston County schools -- Memminger Elementary, Chicora Elementary, North Charleston Elementary and James Simons Elementary.
