Charity Ride

The third annual Goodwill Undy 500 Motorcycle Charity Ride will be Sept. 18.

The Undy 500 is a motorcycle charity ride that covers more than 100 miles of the tri-county area and helps to cover the homeless and struggling veterans as well.

The ride starts at Low Country Harley-Davidson at 4707 Dorchester Road in North Charleston. All of the proceeds will go to support the annual Stand Down Event (hosted by Goodwill and the VA) and Goodwill's homeless veterans program.

Football, cheerleading

Registration for football and cheerleading is being held through June 6 at the Goose Creek Community Center and the Casey Community Center.

Leagues are available for ages 6-12 (ages as of Sept. 1, 2011).

A middle school league for ages 13 and 14 also will be offered. The league will travel and play other middle schools.

Football players will receive a team jersey and must provide their own helmet with a seal from the National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment (NOCSAE), shoulder pads, padded pants, shoes, mouthpiece and athletic supporter. No equipment is needed for midget flag league ages 6-8.

Cheerleaders are required to purchase cheerleading uniforms.

League fees: $45/residents; $80/nonresidents.

Tennis, golf, swim

A new camp will be offered this summer that combines tennis lessons, golf lessons and swim time at the Crowfield Country Club.

The camp is set for Tuesdays and Thursdays for two week sessions for different age groups.

The first session is set for Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 14-June 23, for ages 13-17.

The second session is for ages 8-12 and runs Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 28-July 7.

The camp schedule is as follows:

--Tennis lessons, 9-10 a.m.

--Golf lessons, 10 a.m.-noon.

--Lunch, noon-1 p.m. (participants can bring a lunch or buy it from the golf course snack bar).

--Swim time at the pool 1-3 p.m.

Participants will need to bring a swimsuit and towel as well as golf clubs and tennis racquet if they have them.

If there is continued interest in the camp, additional sessions will be scheduled throughout the summer.

Cost for the two-week camp is $95 and $100 for nonresidents.
