Man charged with attempted murder
A 26-year-old Charleston man was charged with attempted murder Wednesday in connection with a shooting that took place last week.
Charleston police expect to upgrade the charge to murder because the victim, Davon Goodwin, 19, of North Charleston, died Wednesday as a result of injuries he suffered in the shooting.
Goodwin was found in front of 36 1/2 South St. shortly after 2 a.m. April 26 after Mount Pleasant police received a call about a person being on the ground on South Street. Charleston police found Goodwin lying in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. He was taken to Medical University Hospital. He died Wednesday.
Marvin Brown was arrested about 7:30 p.m. in the Park Circle area of North Charleston, said Charles Francis, a spokesman for the Charleston Police Department.
Brown is charged with attempted murder, armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, Francis said.
Brown is being held in the Charleston County jail pending a bond hearing set for today.
With the victim having died, detectives were expected to file a murder charge, Francis said.
