Morning fire destroys North Charleston home
Three people escaped without injury from a fire that destroyed a mobile home on North Charleston's Nowell Street early this morning.
Two residents and a guest were inside the home sleeping when the fire started just before 3 a.m. One person woke up as the fire spread and alerted the others. They got out just in time, saving some pets as well, said Bianca Sancic, spokeswoman for the North Charleston Fire Department.
The fire appears to have started in the kitchen, Sancic said. The occupants were cooking earlier in the night and apparently did not completely turn off a stove burner, she said.
The single-wide mobile home was completely destroyed. "It's a total loss," she said.
Sancic urged people to take extra care when cooking and always check to make sure stove burners are off when they finish their preparations.
