One injured in auto salvage fire
SUMMERVILLE -- One person had minor burns after a fire Monday at an auto salvage yard on U.S. Highway 78.
Shortly before 12:50 p.m, the C&B Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to Johnson Used Auto Parts at 10453 U.S. 78, said C&B Fire Lt. Michael Campbell.
The first firefighters at the scene reported seeing heavy fire coming from six or seven junked vehicles in the salvage yard, Campbell said. Some of the brush in the area also was ablaze, but the structures on the lot were not threatened, he said.
The Caromi Volunteer Fire Department and the North Charleston Fire Department also responded. The blaze was quickly knocked down. EMS treated one person at the scene who had suffered minor burns, Thompson said.
Firefighters were on the scene for about 2 1/2 hours, Campbell said. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
