Former University of South Carolina President Andrew Sorensen dies

Former University of South Carolina president Andrew Sorensen died Sunday.

Sorensen served as president of USC from 2002 until 2008. He also served as president at the University of Alabama. He was provost and vice president for academic affairs at the University of Florida, executive director of the AIDS Institute at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, and dean of the School of Public Health at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

A statement announcing Sorensen's death was posted on the Web site of Ohio State University, where he was senior vice president for development, president of the Ohio State University Foundation and special assistant to the president for advancement.

Sorensen is survived by his wife of 42 years, Donna, their two sons, Aaron and Benjamin, and their grandson, Art.
