In "sickness and in health" took on a whole new meaning at the Cooper River Bridge Run's first wedding.

Last winter, Tina Berwanger and Andy Cook won Carnival Cruise Lines' Race to the Altar contest, which included an all-expense-paid wedding at a faux beach at Marion Square and a honeymoon cruise to the Bahamas in May.

As the crowd gathered to witness the post-race spectacle and enjoyed celebratory, though non-alcoholic, slushies, the bride and groom were running late.

Cook injured his back three weeks ago, but was still healthy enough to walk and jog across the bridge. Tina stuck with her man as the two made a 6.2-mile procession together to Marion Square in wedding-themed running attire specially designed by Carnival.

Both said hundreds of fellow runners shouted congratulations to the couple, who also have lost a combined 130 pounds in the past year, as they made their way from Mount Pleasant to Charleston.

"It feels great to be husband and wife," the new Mrs. Cook said after the ceremony.
