Deputies seek help identifying home invasion suspect
CANADYS — Colleton County sheriff's deputies are asking for help identifying a man who kicked in the door of a woman's mobile home and stole her purse.
Deputies responded to a burglary-in-progress call at Red Bank Road near Canadys about 3:40 a.m. Friday, Chief Deputy Ted Stanfield said.
Here's what happened, according to an incident report:
The victim said someone knocked on her door four times and then kicked it in, causing her to scream. The suspect touched her right arm with his hand and told her to sit on her couch. He took her black, Liz Claiborne purse that contained $130, two his and her wedding bands, her cellphone and a white gold watch with a broken band. He also stole her landline phone and cord.
A neighbor who lives across the street told deputies he heard a crash and his neighbor scream through his open windows. He grabbed a pistol and a flashlight and watched the suspect leave the victim's home and enter the passenger side of a small car parked in the yard. The car drove off toward Maple Ridge Road.
The neighbor called 911.
The suspect is described as a white male, about 18 to 20 years old, with a dark complexion, about 5-foot-8, with short hair. He wore a knit shirt and shorts down to his knees.
Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call the Colleton County Sheriff's Office at (843) 549-2211 or call in an anonymous tip to 1-888-CRIMESC or text "TIPSC (message)" to CRIMES (274637).
